Read:
Psalm 119: 97-114
“…Your word is a
lamp to my feet and a
light to my path” (V.
105)
God’s word is certainly a lamp to
our
feet, lighting up our way.
The
Psalmist talks about the wicked
laying a
snare for him, but he will
not stray from
God’s word. No matter
what we face, we need
to keep on in
God’s word and not depart from
it (V: 110)
It is God's word that brings
light to
our darkness.
Through God’s
word we gain more understanding and
insight. As we meditate
on God’s word –
hiding it in our hearts
– we can receive
God’s wisdom. God will
often speak to us as
we meditate on His
word – and listen to what
the Holy Spirit
is saying to us. We can’t
just read God’s
word alone. We need to allow
it to penetrate
deep down into our inmost
being. This is
where it can really make a
difference and
bring about the change we so
desire. As
we learn to memorize scripture,
we find that
it’s a powerful weapon against
the enemy –
‘The sword of the Spirit’. I know
how hard it
is to memorize scripture – but I
also know
how important it is to hide God’s
word in my
heart. We can just start with one verse
– one is
better than none! You never know,
you could
surprise yourself, and be able to
learn several.
Something that may help is
getting scripture
on tape so you can listen
to it as you go
about your day. It’s great
for the kids as well.
I’m so amazed at my
8-year-old son. They have
to memorize
scripture at Sunday school. He can
memorize
them. I’m so impressed – and wished
my mind
were as sharp!!
So my challenge for us
today is to memorize
just one scripture.
Maybe one each week!

The entrance and
unfolding of Your words
give light; their
unfolding gives understanding (discernment
and comprehension)
to the
simple. ~ Psalm 119: 130

Lord I pray that
I can hide
Your word within my heart
For
when I meditate on your word
It brings light
into the
dark.
