Devotional: Our Good Shepherd (Part 5)
Christian Devotion about God preparing a table in the midst of our enemies

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You have anointed and refreshed my head with oil; My cup overflows. - Psalm 23:5 (AMP)
God preparing a table before
me speaks to me of 'acceptance'—acceptance at His table as His child in the Kingdom of God. We have unlimited access
to God the Father because of our faith in Jesus Christ.
We, as believers, have
fellowship with the Father, and He has accepted us at His table. It's a real honour. I liken it to the privilege
of being seated at the Captain's table on a cruise ship. To be chosen to dine at the Captain's table would be
considered a real honour—even more so is it to be seated at the Lord’s table. All who accept Jesus as Lord &
Saviour have been given that honour of being seated at the table God has prepared for us—simply because we are His
children!

We dine with Jesus in the
presence of our enemy—Satan. He no longer has fellowship with the Father, but because of Jesus, we do. So, being
seated at God's table, dining with Him, is a picture of true communion and intimate fellowship with Him—and it all
takes place in the midst of our enemies! However, it's so very important that we live in continual fellowship with
the Father—every day! Our enemy is still roaming around looking for an opportune time to strike.
God anoints our heads with
oil—symbolic of the Holy Spirit anointing us for ministry & service. And when we overflow with the love, mercy and
goodness of God, we can touch other lives with the fragrant aroma of the Holy Spirit.
