Christian Women's Devotion on Christ's victory over Satan

...Be sober [well balanced and self-disciplined], be alert and cautious at all times. That enemy of yours, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion [fiercely hungry], seeking someone to devour.... (v.8 AMP)

To really get a grasp on the meaning of this passage, we need to take a look at how a lion hunts in the wild—as Satan is likened to a roaring lion.

In the wild, a lion on the hunt will often single out the weakest and most vulnerable of the herd. It stalks its prey first, then slowly and stealthily moves in closer. Once close enough, it suddenly and quickly attacks its prey. As the lion stalks, it carefully watches, studying its prey—intentionally focused on its victim—waiting for the opportune time. Lions can also work together to take down larger prey. This is interesting to note, considering Satan didn't fall alone, but took with him a third of the angels.

We can learn a lot from this passage and how it relates metaphorically to Satan as a roaring lion on the look out for someone to devour. We all come under attack from our enemy, but he can't totally devour us if we are in Christ Jesus. Yes, he's fierce and relentless like a lion, but Jesus is the Lion of Judah! Jesus is bold and fierce against the enemy of our souls and has already conquered and won the victory over him and his hoards. Satan, and his fellow fallen angels, have been stripped of all power and stand defenceless and vulnerable before the Lion of Judah—Jesus!

We need to remember that Christ lives in us, and He is greater than he who lives in the world. We already have the upper hand if we are in Christ Jesus. He has filled us with His Holy Spirit to enable and empower us to stand firm. We are more than conquerors and gain an overwhelming victory through Jesus who loved us and died for us. For God has already given us the victory in Christ Jesus. It's in remembering and standing on these scriptures that we 'do have' and 'can continue' to walk in Christ's victory and power over the enemy.

Even the weakest and most vulnerable of Christ’s followers can rise up victorious over the enemy by keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus and not buying into the demonic lies, temptations and evil desires of the flesh, but instead to align our thinking and our flesh to the Word of God—His truth. We have to realize the authority Jesus has given us to overcome the enemy and tap into that authority. This authority that Christ has given us is there in every believer, even if we don't 'feel' like it is. We have all been given the authority of the name of Jesus and His Word—and we have been washed clean in the blood of the Lamb (Jesus). So, we must speak the name of Jesus over our situations and circumstances—for we belong to Christ, not to Satan.
