Devotional: God's Spiritual Transaction
God delivered us from darkness and we now belong to Him
For He has rescued us
and has drawn us to Himself from the dominion of darkness, and has transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved
Son, in whom we have redemption [because of His sacrifice, resulting in] the forgiveness of our sins [and the
cancellation of sins' penalty]. - Colossians 1:13-14 (AMP)
God has delivered us from
spiritual captivity. When God transferred us from the dominion of darkness to the kingdom of His Son, we now
reside in the kingdom of His Son—which is in His Light—and Jesus, the light of the world, dwells in us! And
because of the light of Jesus indwelling us, we take His light and shine it wherever we go—even into the dark
areas of life. We no longer belong to the devil, but we belong to God—we are His!
This can be likened
to making a bank transfer from one account to another. Once the money is transferred, it no longer exists in
the former account—it has now been placed in the new account. In a similar way, God has transferred us!
Furthermore, when we transfer funds from one account to another, the full amount is transferred, not just
part of it. Likewise, we are not partially transferred, as if some of us remains in the old account of
darkness. We have been fully transferred to the new account of God's Son. It's a spiritual transaction! We
are now the property of the new account holder, who is God, our heavenly Father.
This transaction takes
place because of Jesus Christ's sacrifice on the cross, which resulted in the forgiveness and cleansing of all
our sins and the cancellation of sin's penalty. He has fully redeemed us! On our part, we just need to accept
God's free gift of salvation by coming to Jesus and receiving His forgiveness, inviting Him into our lives as
Saviour and Lord.
If you have never given your life to Jesus, you may like to pray this prayer:
Lord Jesus, I believe you
died on the cross for my sins and that you rose again three days later. I ask you to forgive me and cleanse me of
all my sins. I invite you now to come into my heart and to give me new life in you. Please fill me with your Holy
Spirit and help me to walk in union with you. In Jesus' name, I pray.
