Devotional: God's Treasure
We are chosen, loved and valued by God
For you are a holy
people [set apart] to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of
the earth to be a people for His own possession [that is, His very special treasure].
- Deuteronomy 7:6 (AMP)
Even though this verse is
referring to Israel being the chosen people, set apart to God, I do believe it also applies today for those who
believe and have put their faith in Jesus Christ (1 Peter 2:9). God has chosen us to be His—and He sets us apart
for His purposes.
We are God's treasure in
the sense that we are very special to Him. We are God's own possession—we belong to Him. He has transferred us
from Satan's kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of His Son, Jesus—the kingdom of His light!
Just like how a doting
parent is over their newborn baby—who is so very precious, valued and loved that no words can express how they
feel—in their eyes, nothing else in the world could compare! In this same way, we are treasured by God—we are so very
precious to Him. We, His children, are the apple of His eye!
I don't think we can
even begin to fathom how very special and precious we are to God, maybe because we don’t often see ourselves
that way—the way the Father sees us! It can be hard for us to even believe we are that loved and valued.
But no matter how messed
up we may think we've become, or how unlike Christ we believe we are, God still sees us as His treasure. He's our
loving heavenly Father, who is waiting with longing for us to come to Him, so He can wrap His arms around us—like
the father embracing the prodigal returning home. He is always there every day, waiting, hoping that we would
just come to Him and fellowship with Him, to be still in His presence and ask Him for His help, guidance, wisdom
and comfort. We just need to reach out to Him.
Please, never forget how
much you are loved and valued by your heavenly Father—you are God's Treasure!
Prayer: Thank you, Lord,
for loving me. I pray that you will help me have a greater revelation of your love for me and to see myself as
you see me—as chosen by you and dearly loved and treasured. Please help me to set aside some You and me time every
day—just to be together in quiet communion. In Jesus' name, I pray.
